My VirtualCenter database is huge and slow, can I purge it?

VirtuaCenter database grows overtime, and may become slow. Databases with sizes over dozens of gigabytes are not unheard of. If the size becomes a problem, the database can be purged. What fills it mostly is alerts and events. Performance data is purged automatically.

To purge the database, see VMware KB article with purge scripts attached at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1000125.  (Thanks slowe for pointing this out )

Also, check your statistics collection level settings, found in the Administration menu of VI Client (see pic below). Keep database recovery model at bulk or simple while upgrading VC, and if using full recovery model, backup and truncate logs regurlarly.
