In general you will be able to install VMware products on most linux distros. The supported distros will however let you install your VMware product without much hassle. Some commercial distros have free counterparts and also these will typically be as easy to install on, but you might be required to recreate your issues on a supported system if you file a Service Request. Non-supported distros often have newer kernels and might need the any-any-update. Some distros also need additional tweaks.
